Dinko Tuna Farmers is a top supplier of southern bluefin tuna (SBT). SBT fisheries are Australia’s most commercially valuable and most of the country’s SBT quota is caught and farmed off Port Lincoln. At Dinko Tuna we have three tuna vessels in our fleet: the Lukina 1, Southern Condor and Seatas 3. We fish for tuna in the Great Australian Bight using large nets and tow cages to bring the catch into Port Lincoln. Here they are carefully released into tuna farms where they are fattened up for several months. Each tuna is then individually harvested, caught by a diver in the cage. Our SBT is in high demand and is exported directly to Japan.

The Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT) ensures the environmentally sound nature of our operation. CCSBT was established in the 1990s and aims to certify the sustainable use of the global southern bluefin tuna stock. Between the 1950s and up to the end of the 1980s, heavy international fishing depleted tuna stocks and in 2011 the CCSBT adopted a formal rebuilding strategy to ensure recovery. The CCSBT committed to recovering stock to an interim target of 20% of its unfished levels by 2035. In order to achieve this, total allowable catches are set every three years.
